Main Task Style Model Research 3

Text:Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground (The White Stripes)

Narrative:
  • Man travels back home on a bus, finds his home wrecked.
  • Projections on the wall show what happened while he was away.
  • People snuck in, past the girl who lived there, trashed the house.
  • The man sits in the various rooms, staring at the damage.
  • Other projections show the man and woman putting things up in their home, singing by the piano.
  • As man lies in bed, projections show the woman collecting her possessions up and leaving.
Camera Shots:
  • Multiple tracking shots to following the man and other characters’ movements.
  • Mainly medium or long shots, showing scenery around the characters.
  • Few close ups to emphasise particular damages to the home.
  • Zooming in and out of objects to make audience pay attention to them.
  • Shaky camera effect to connote a disturbance or unbalance.
Representation of Characters:
  • Man: Representation of the troubled man. He comes back to find his home has been wrecked and the woman isn’t there. Stressed, upset, not sure what to do. Inspects each room to see the damage and remember what it used to look like.
  • Woman: Appears to mean no harm at first, she doesn’t want to let the people in, they just force their way past her. However she doesn’t stop them ruining the house. She also leaves, showing her lack of concern for her home.

    Colour Scheme:
    • Dark colours in contrast to the man’s red shirt and suitcase.
    • The house is dimly lit with quite neutral colours, again a large contrast with the man’s clothing, making him stand out.
    •  Few red and blue objects (items of clothing, furniture), showing the opposites, possibly connoting disturbance within a neutral area.
    Editing:
    • Fade in at the beginning to introduce the audience to the central character.
    • Lots of jump cuts as man investigates the house. Jumping between rooms and scenes of destruction.
